Harvard Community Unit School District 50 is excited to welcome Tucker Wilson as its new Coordinator of College and Career Readiness.
Tucker has degrees in English and Spanish from Kansas State University, a Master’s in Education from the University of Chicago, and a Bilingual Education Endorsement from National Louis University. He is currently working toward a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. Originally from central New York and a dedicated Buffalo Bills fan, Tucker moved to Illinois in junior high and graduated from Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.
After earning a Fulbright Scholarship, Tucker taught English in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before returning to the U.S. to teach Dual Language Science and Literacy. For the past seven years, he has taught at Northwood Middle School in Woodstock, IL, where he also served as the AVID Site Coordinator and 8th-grade boys basketball coach. A highlight of his AVID leadership was coaching a student who won the AVID Student Speaker Competition, presenting in front of thousands in San Diego. This year, Tucker won the AVID Educator Speaker Competition and will present at the AVID Summer Institute in San Antonio.
Superintendent Dr. Corey Tafoya expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “At a time when District 50 students are demonstrating increasing preparedness for higher education and workplace readiness, Tucker comes to District 50 to help keep our foot on the gas pedal. His commitment to students achieving their potential and high academic expectations is a perfect fit for Harvard.”
Tucker expressed his excitement for this new opportunity in Harvard, stating, “I can't wait to get to know everybody and learn about how you are currently preparing your students for college and career success. I look forward to working with each and every one of you as we build together towards having the best AVID district possible.”
