Hello! I’m Corey Tafoya and I proudly serve as the superintendent of the Harvard CUSD 50. I began the position on July 1, 2017. I’m thrilled to join a district that has a such a solid plan for improvement and commitment to the future. It’s such an exciting time to be an educator in District 50!
I grew up in Casper, Wyoming and moved to Waverly, Iowa where I did my undergraduate work in U.S. History and Spanish secondary education at Wartburg College. Go Knights! I began my teaching career as a Spanish teacher at Cedar Rapids (IA) Kennedy High school. During those seven years as a teacher, I also coached soccer, basketball, and football. I was promoted into the role of Attendance Facilitator at Kennedy and worked in that role for three years before becoming the associate principal there as well. After 12 years at Kennedy, I accepted the principal job at Woodstock (IL) High School where I worked for nine years. Then I moved to Crystal Lake (IL) High School District 155 where I was the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services from 2014 to 2017.
My three children are my everything and I’m always a dad first. For the 17-18 school year, they will be in 12th, 9th, and 5th grade. They are very active with soccer and basketball. I love being at their events and watching them play.
I love outdoor activities such at golf, fly-fishing, gardening, running, and cycling. I try to stay active and fit as best I can and love my kettlebell and ropes classes I take at EWT Training in Woodstock. I’m hooked on CJ Box and Craig Johnson novels because they both write about Wyoming characters and stories. I adore all forms of Mexican food and music of all varieties.
