School Resource Officer

District 50 has one school resource officer (SRO), a police officer with certifications and training specific to working in schools and with juvenile students. The SRO is a full-time Police Officer of the Harvard Police Department.  An SRO is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment with the school by preventing and responding to criminal activities. They also collaborate with school staff to provide educational programs on safety, conflict resolution, and law-related topics for students. The SRO works directly with the Director of Safety and Security and other administrators to formulate and implement best practices within the schools.

Officer Ed Kohn

Officer Ed Kohn is the School Resource Officer (SRO) for Harvard School District 50. SRO Kohn has been with CUSD 50 for a good portion of his career. With over 20 years of law enforcement experience he brings knowledge and expertise to the role of dealing with juvenile issues within the school and the Harvard Police Department. SRO Kohn is a State of Illinois certified Juvenile Officer, Gang Officer, Evidence Technician and Field Training Officer. SRO Kohn also has extensive training in school threat assessment and crisis intervention.  Fun fact, Officer Kohn has a degree in Meteorology and is a severe weather and weather forecasting enthusiast, bringing another aspect of school safety to the district.
