CUSD 50 Staff Spotlight: Andrea Luna Esquivel, Dual Language Pre-K Teacher at Washington
"I grew up in Harvard and began my education at Washington, where I attended kindergarten. We moved to Woodstock for a few years but eventually moved back to Harvard, where I finished junior high and graduated from Harvard High School."
"My greatest inspiration for becoming a teacher is undoubtedly my mom. As a child, I watched her pour her heart and soul into her work, igniting a fire
within me to pursue a similar path. Her passion for teaching was evident in every lesson she crafted, and her unwavering dedication to her students, and the impact she had on her classroom made me realize the profound difference an educator can make."
"What I love most about being an educator is the bond that I have with my students. I can have fun and joke around, while simultaneously helping them grow academically and as individuals. The age group that I work with allows me to see immense growth in all areas of development, and it’s always more exciting when the students realize their growth and progress as well."
"One of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching at D50 is the chance to connect deeply with my students through our shared cultural background. Working in a dual language program creates an environment where my identity as a Latina resonates with my students, allowing us to thrive and feel secure together. Additionally, District 50 offers a variety of excellent programs that cater to diverse interests, ensuring that every student has the support they need to succeed."
"My biggest piece of advice is just to be kind and open. Be kind with your words and your actions, it can go a long way in how others perceive you and approach you. Be open to changes as well. It’s difficult to be positive towards every challenge that is thrown at you but be open and up for the challenge, it might turn out to be something great!"
