Harvard CUSD 50 Inaugural Bowling Team
The inaugural season is already underway for Harvard High School’s Boys and Girls Bowling Teams. The addition of the bowling program, approved by the Harvard CUSD 50 Board of Education in June 2021, showcases the collaborative efforts between the district and the community.
Jay and Kelley Schulz, longtime Harvard residents and owners of J’s Lanes, were instrumental in the development of the program.
As other school districts began adding bowling teams and partnering with local bowling alleys, Jay knew that he could help make the HHS bowling a reality.
“Kelley and I discussed it, and we both agreed it would be great if students at Harvard High School would have the same opportunity,” says Jay. “It isn't about the money to us. It's about providing the opportunity to the kids in our town."
HHS Athletic Director Andrew Walters worked closely with Jay and Kelley to develop the program.
“We are hopeful that bowling will reach more students, increase involvement, and create another outlet for students to showcase their excellence,” Andrew said. “J's Lanes has been extremely generous in donating their time and facilities as we work to build a successful program.”
Both teams practice at J’s Lanes under the guidance of their coaches, Jason Norgard and Katherine Dietz. They are currently preparing for their first bowling meet on November 10 at J’s Lanes.
While competitive in nature, the athletic program showcases the impact the community has on our students. As Jay explains, “Kelley was raised in Harvard, and I have lived here for 28 years. We raised our children here. Harvard is our home, and we only want to make it better for all of us."
With the support of J’s Lanes and the Harvard community, the first bowl season will be a success.

Equipo inaugural de boliche de Harvard CUSD 50
La temporada inaugural ya está en marcha para los equipos de boliche masculinos y femeninos de Harvard High School. La adición del programa de boliche, aprobado por el consejo de educación de Harvard CUSD 50 en junio de 2021, muestra los esfuerzos de colaboración entre el distrito y la comunidad.
Jay y Kelley Schulz, residentes de Harvard por un largo tiempo, y dueños de J 's Lanes, fueron fundamentales en el desarrollo del programa.
A medida que otros distritos escolares comenzaron a agregar equipos de boliche y a asociarse con centros de boliche locales, Jay sabía que podía ayudar a que el boliche de HHS fuera una realidad.
“Kelley y yo lo platicamos y ambos estuvimos de acuerdo en que sería genial si los estudiantes de la Harvard High School tuvieran la misma oportunidad” dice Jay. “No se trata del dinero para nosotros. Se trata de proveer la oportunidad a los niños de nuestra ciudad”.
El director atlético de HHS, Andrew Walters, trabajó en colaboración cercana con Jay y Kelley para desarrollar el programa.

Si bien es de naturaleza competitiva, el programa atlético muestra el impacto que la comunidad tiene en nuestros estudiantes. Como lo explica Jay, “Kelley se crió en Harvard y he vivido aquí 28 años. Criamos a nuestros hijos aquí. Harvard es nuestro hogar y solo queremos mejorarlo para todas”.
Con el apoyo de J 's Lanes y la comunidad de Harvard, la primera temporada de Boliche será un éxito.
